1. I found some inexpensive blankets around Christmas time - these ones were $2.50. After Christmas I found some on clearance for .$50 - I will have to save those for another year! If you think about gifts ahead of time you can find great things on clearance!
2.I had fabric in my stash that I used - this is a great gift to use up scraps. If you have to buy fabric you can buy remnant pieces or fat quarters.
3.Cut out letters. I cut them out of two different fabrics stacked on top of each other because I like the more frayed look but you could easily do it out of one piece of fabric. I eye balled all the letters but you could also trace them onto the fabric first.
4. Pin the letters to the blanket - use lots of pins so they don't move while you are sewing!
5. Sew around each letter. I left a 1/2 in. fringe but you really can leave as much as you want. You don't want a tiny fringe or it will pull out of the stitch once it has been washed. To make it easier as you sew, I would roll up the long side of the blanket so it was easier to turn it around in my sewing machine.
6. After all the letters are sewn on, clip the fringe around each letter. I clip it every 1/2 in. approx. but you can do these as close together or as far apart as you like. My sister does hers closer to an inch apart. BE Careful not to clip your stitching! The clipping keeps it from fraying in big long strands!
7. Wash and dry your blanket. The fringe always looks much cuter after it is washed. You may have to trim off any strings!
8. Viola!! You are done! Give it away or snuggle up with it!
